Carol Ann Garza

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Carol Ann Garza, passed away peacefully in her home in Salt Lake City, on May 14, 2025, at the age of 84.

She was born on September 16, 1940, in New York City, to John Russell and Martha (Metzler) Burns. After high school, she attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Newburgh, New York and graduated in 1961. The following year she moved to San Francisco where she met and fell in love with Paul Garza. They married on September 9, 1962. With Paul being in the Navy, Carol worked as a Registered Nurse in many different settings and states before they settled in Salt Lake City in 1975. She then continued her nursing career, which she was passionate about, until retirement.

Carol was very outgoing and loved people. She could easily strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Carol knew no strangers, only friends she hadn’t yet met. Her hobbies included gardening and baking.

She is survived by her son Russell and his wife Jodi, and grandchildren Elijah, Caleb and Luke Garza, and Samuel and Michael Joshua Droubay.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers Russell and John Burns and her daughter Karen Droubay.

A celebration of life will take place at the Hilltop Ward, 589 18th Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday June 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Friends will be invited to share memories.
