Faaasa Givens

On the evening of December 29, 2024, our beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, Faaasa Siu Givens (Malu), passed away peacefully at home after a courageous and unwavering battle with cancer. Born on July 24, 1970, in Savai’i, Samoa, Faaasa’s life was defined by her strength, resilience, and extraordinary devotion to those she loved.

Faaasa is preceded in death by her mother, Suitupe Gatoloai; her father, Siueva Malu; her eldest sister, Punipuao Siu; and her aunt, Siulai Yandall. She is survived by her eldest son, Karl Fono Givens; her youngest daughter, Kara Givens Bates (Robert Austin Bates); her sister, Asiasiga (Puao) Sao; her brothers, Tofilau Laauli Siu, Folasa Fonoiamata Siu, Leitu Siu, and Roriki Siu; and her extended family of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

While Faaasa worked as an accountant, excelling in payroll and accounts payable and receivable, her work was never what defined her. Her true legacy lies in the profound impact she had on others. She was a pillar of strength and compassion, independently raising two children and never missing a step, no matter the challenge. She worked tirelessly, even taking on two jobs at times, to ensure her children could live stable and fulfilling lives. She always set an example of strength and determination.

Her tireless work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles were unmatched. Faaasa was the kind of person who never wavered, even under the most challenging circumstances, and her strength inspired everyone who knew her.   Faaasa was also deeply devoted to her faith. She worshiped God through song and praise, sharing her gift of music across countless fellowships. Her life was a testament to perseverance, love, and an unshakable belief in the power of community and service.

She was a hero to many, a source of guidance, comfort, and strength. Her love and light will continue to live on in all the lives she touched.
