1932-2023
On June 1st, 2023, Marion Strauss Cummings – beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and friend to many – passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91. Marion was born in Salt Lake City on January 4th, 1932, to Bertha Anna Hockenberger Bartsch and Edward Dean Strauss. In 1955 she married her beloved husband Paul Hulbert Cummings who preceded her in death in 2000.
In 1955, Marion married the love of her life, Paul Cummings. They happily welcomed two daughters, Samye and Lisa.
Together, Marion and Paul continued growing the family business, Cummings Studio Chocolates. Opening its doors in 1924, the gourmet confectionery will soon celebrate its 100th year as a Utah staple. Cummings Studio Chocolates continues to thrive under the leadership of Chelsa and Allie Best.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and soulmate, Paul, and their beloved daughter, Lisa. She is survived by her brother, Russell Strauss (Sandy); Daughter, Samye Maesato (Sam); Granddaughters: Chelsa Best (John Coconis), Mikelle Best Reaves (Les), Alexandra Best, Annie Best (Ricky), Prudence Crandall, Joycie Crandall (Becca), and Felicity Crandall (Vince); Great-Grandchildren: Madeline Best, Makani and Bodhi Reeves, Charlotte, Carter and Noah Crandall, Henry Crandall, and; Son-in-Law, Mike Crandall. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces, as well as numerous and beloved friends.
To honor Marion, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the City View Mortuary, 1001 East 11th Avenue, Salt Lake City. Thank you to everyone who loved, supported, and shared beautiful memories with Marion. She will be missed but her loving memory lives on.
