Obituary

Our sweet mother, LaVonne P. Tomlin passed into the loving arms of her Father in Heaven in the early hours of Friday, February 6th , 2026. LaVonne was born on July 19, 1930 in a remote mining community in the Sierra Nevada mountains where her father worked as a miner. She was the youngest of three children born to Timothy & Florence Parker.

When she was just a young girl, the family moved to the Salt Lake Valley, where she grew up and went to school. After her father’s death, she left high school to work, as her family needed her assistance.

Lavonne, and her entire family were lifelong members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In her early twenties, she met and fell in love with Jack R. Tomlin. They married in Las Vegas, NV on December 30, 1953 on their way to southern California, where new adventures awaited. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

LaVonne and Jack were blessed with one son, Scott R Tomlin, born on Dec 2, 1954. The family resided in California for many years, moving back to Salt Lake City in 1974, to be closer to their families.

LaVonne worked for much of her life. After moving back to Utah, she worked for O.C. Tanner Jewelry Company from 1975 until she retired in 1995. But her favorite job was being a grandmother to Nicole, Stephanie and Jared.

After Jack passed away in October 1996, she moved to an “over 55” community in Millcreek where she had many happy years with friends and neighbors. She later moved to an assisted living community where again, she enjoyed new associations. At the Abbington Assisted Living she made a name for herself by being such a sweetheart, but with a spicy side to her. She’d often coax the Relief Society leaders to push her in her wheelchair at high speed down the hallways. She would raise her feet and say let’s go! She loved all the pets at the facility, especially the chihuahuas who lived next door with Ben and the therapy parrot, who actually took quite a liking to her.

LaVonne lived a very long and happy life, she was a wonderful cook, her pies, desserts and hot rolls were legendary. She was very talented in handiwork; cross stitch, embroidery, knitting and crocheting with her family being the beneficiaries of her beautiful creations.

LaVonne was a beautiful person, she always looked nice and had the prettiest hair of anyone. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, Scott R. Tomlin (Leslie), grandchildren Nicole, Stephanie (Sam), and Jared (Caitlyn), along with many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Russell, and her sister Marie.

Internment will be at The City View Mortuary and Cemetery, Salt Lake City, UT
