Richard Donovan Champlin, age 96, passed away on April 10, 2022 in Bountiful, Utah surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in Olean, New York to Donovan Champlin and Bernice Olson on February 27, 1926. He graduated from Portville High School in 1943 then proudly served in the Army Air Corps until the end of WWll. He married Mary Louise Cone on August 21, 1950 in the Portville Presbyterian Church.They had identical twin daughters while living in Marquette, Michigan. Dick graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was employed by Hercules Powder Company for 37 years. He moved to Utah to open the Hercules plant in Clearfield in 1961.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir wherever he was located. He was an avid golfer and one of the biggest fans of the University of Utah and Buffalo Bills football teams. He was a member of the Masonic Order and American Legion. After retiring in 1987 he continued to work for several companies until the age of 90. After suffering a stroke in 2016 he worked tirelessly to get back to his home which he was able to accomplish.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou in 2008 and his twin daughter Lou Ann Talbot in 2012.
He is lovingly survived by his twin daughter Lisa Tatum, his granddaughter Sarah Pomeroy, his grandsons James Sedgwick, Chris Talbot, Jon Talbot and Mike Tatum. He is survived by eight great grandchildren and his nephews Joe and Jeff Champlin.
Per his wishes there will be no funeral. A private graveside memorial with military honors will be held at Bountiful City Cemetery at a later date.
He will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by all who knew him.
