Scott Charles Collins, age 78, passed away March 18, 2025, at his home in Holladay, UT after a hard-fought battle with dementia. He was born May 19, 1946, in Salt Lake City, UT to Beverlee Jean Hollingworth and Keith Temple Swift. He married Victoria Barnes on March 3, 1973.
Scott was a skilled mechanic. He enjoyed working on cars and could fix anything. He received an Associate's Degree in auto mechanics from Salt Lake Trade Technical Institute after graduating from South High School, and later received an Associates in Fire Science from Utah Valley State College in 1989. He loved talking about his 1957 Chevy, his 1959 Corvette, and how much fun he had drag racing throughout Utah, Idaho, and Colorado in the mid-1960s through the early 1970s. Prior to becoming a firefighter, Scott worked as a diesel mechanic and a long-haul truck driver. He often spoke about his adventures while hauling crude oil throughout the West.
Scott dedicated 32 years of his life to Salt Lake County Fire Department/Unified Fire Authority, beginning his career in June of 1974. Throughout the years, he climbed the ranks from Firefighter to Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, and ultimately Assistant Chief. His unwavering dedication to the fire service was evident in everything he did, but it was only surpassed by his deep love for his family.
Scott leaves behind a legacy of family, leadership, mentorship, and commitment to service. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Victoria, their children Timothy (Rachel) Collins, Meisha (Robert) Marriott, grandson Charlie, brother Brian (Stacy) Swift, sisters Wendy (Greg) Stillman, Jan (David) Nelson, Ellen (Albert) Urquidi.
