February 10, 1941 – October 28, 2025

Shala L. Smith, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2025, after a battle with cancer.

She was born on February 10, 1941, in Exeter, Nebraska, to Eva L. Derry and Wayne L. Rice. On January 1, 1971, she married the love of her life, Larry B. Smith, in Elko, Nevada.

Shala was a homemaker and a loving wife and mom. She loved to crochet dolls and blankets, and enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds. Shala found joy in visiting her family out of state, traveling from the West Coast to Michigan. She especially loved gathering everyone together for family BBQs and parties.

The family would like to thank Intermountain Homecare & Hospice with their amazing caregivers for their time and love.

Shala is survived by her children, David (Kenna), Greg (Jeri), and Jaylynn (Alan); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister and a brother.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry; her grandson, Justin; her parents; and twelve brothers and sisters.

A visitation 11 am-12 pm & graveside services will begin at 12:30 on November 3, 2025, at City View Mortuary for those who wish to pay their respects.
