Obituary

Sherman B. Jensen was born November 19, 1928 and died October 2, 2018.

Sherman was born in Brigham City Utah to Luella (Hoopes) and Woodruff Jensen.  He was raised by his paternal grandmother. He married Marilyn Molly Hansen in March of 1948.  Their marriage produced five children; Suzanne, Sherryl (Harvey Boyd), Sherman (Suzanne Thurson), David (Jane Lipisto), and a surprise in 1969, Molly (David Dixon). Grandfather of Michael (Jenn), Marie (Jaime Harrison), Nathan (Sonia Relingo), Conrad, Ginger Rose, Jack and Charlie.  Great-grandfather of William.

Sherm was a self made man.  He worked in his father's landscaping and nursery business in Ogden until he moved to Salt Lake to attend the University of Utah.  With the support of Marilyn he graduated as a Geological Engineer.  After brief experiences with several mining companies, he built a career with the State of Utah (UDOT), first designing freeways and then as Chairman of the Utah Environmental Counsel.  Dad retired at age 55 to prospect for gold and hunt treasure, something he never gave up to his dying day.

Sherm was known for his sense of humor, generosity, helpfulness and loyalty to his word.  He was a good, stand up guy.  He voted Republican until he came to his senses with the help of his children and proudly voted for President Obama.  He was saddened and frightened for his descendants by the results of the 2016 presidential election.

Marilyn died in 1975.  In 1980 he met Carol Lynn Ross and they were life partners until her death in 2006.  They traveled and especially enjoyed cruises.

If Dad had his way, he would have lived forever.  He enjoyed life, even the hard parts.  He was a man of stubborn determination who overcame economic, social and medical obstacles.  He stated that he did not want a funeral as he wanted people to remember him alive rather than dead.  He enjoyed the company of family and many friends prior to his passing.  In keeping with his wishes, there will not be a funeral.

Thank you to the medical providers and staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and also Encompass Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care of Dad the last few months.  Thanks also to his private doctors Fred Gottlieb, MD and Lisa Stout, MD for the years of medical care and guidance.

Thank you Dad for all your lessons and for standing by us.
