Sidney Hulen Baskin passed on to eternity on Feb. 19, 2026, in Holladay, Utah. Sidney (Sid) spent his last days at his home surrounded by his family, friends, and beloved dog Kolleen, with hospice giving aid when needed.

Born in Corpus Christi, Texas on Sept. 10, 1937, to Hulen and Delores Baskin. Sid was an adored only child until his brother Lee Baskin came along 12 years later. Gifted and talented, he graduated from New Braunfels High School at age 16. Sid earned a BA from Baylor University, double majoring in English and music.

Sid married Annetta Arlene Hall in 1958. They moved to Ft. Worth, Texas, where Sid pursued a masters of Divinity Degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, then moved to Utah.

In 1964, Sid served as Minister of Music and Youth at Kearns Baptist Church. He later served at Granger Baptist Church and Provo Baptist Church as needed. Sid also taught English during the week at Utah Technical College, and completed a master’s degree in administration and psychology at the University of Utah. His marriage to Arlene ended in 1974.

Sid married Joyce Murdock Ensign in 1977, followed by his conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Sid worked as a counselor at South High School and East High School in Salt Lake City, helping countless students earn their degrees. He retired following Joyce’s sudden death in 1998.

He married his faithful friend and fellow educator Patricia Patterick Johnston on Feb. 16, 2000. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple. Together they served on the South High Alumni Association Scholarship Committee, continuing to help students advance. In addition to Pat and their dogs, Sid loved corvettes, and was a fan of Baylor and University of Utah football and gymnastics.

Sidney leaves behind his precious and very loving wife of 26 years, brother Lee (Ellie) Baskin, children Gretchen (Brian) Deitz, Wade (Sharlee) Baskin, Lisa Ensign, Erlynn (Chris) Lansing, Clinton (Cindy) Ensign, Jonathan (Tracie) Ensign, and Patrick (Jennifer) Johnston, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
