Syble Aliene Collins Mitchell

Syble Aliene Collins Mitchell was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus, releasing her from the cruel grip of Alzheimer’s on April 1, 2025.

Born in Cuero, Texas on February 3, 1940 to Dora Dee Stevens Collins and Wesley Thomas Collins (our Mama-D and Papa-D) She was the third of four children.

Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Owen Mark Mitchell, her parents and her siblings: Floyd Collins, Patricia Collins Fehnel, and Charles Timothy Collins; and one great-grandchild.

Survived by her 5 children, Doug (Lynette), Kerri (Val Putnam), Kristy, Darren (Sonia), and Kayna; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Syble Collins was born and lived in a house without indoor plumbing until she was 12 years old. She said the path to the outhouse was out past the chicken coop and down through the cow pasture. But she also said that they were more fortunate than most people, because they had a fancy outhouse that was a 2 holer, one regular-sized for grownups and a smaller one for the kids.  They shared a common washtub once a week for bathing, and as was the custom, the order went from father to mother then to each child in order of birth – all in the same bathwater.  Things apparently got better after moving to Del Rio Texas circa 1952 where they attained a fancier home with indoor plumbing. She finally got clean bathwater!

Mom was just a junior in high school in 1957 when this tall, handsome, swanky Air Force flyboy driving a ‘57 Corvette swept her off her feet. They dated only a couple of weeks until she married Owen Mark Mitchell on June 4,1957. Back then she couldn’t wait to get out of the small Texas town that she lived in. Being in the US Air Force, they moved all over the United States, having their children from Sparks, Nevada, Savannah, Georgia to Tachikawa, Japan. The rest of her life was spent wishing that she’d never left Texas. Owen & Syble were together for 63 years until his recent death in April of 2021.

Mom was a deeply spiritual person and loved the Lord Jesus. She raised her 5 children in a firm, godly manner, attending the church of Christ her entire life. Her love of the Lord was foremost in her life, followed closely by her love of family and her never-ending love of Texas. She loved all flowers but especially growing roses, yellow roses of Texas!  She loved sewing, quilting, canning, camping, going to the cabin and getting together with family. She was a wonderful cook and had a special talent for making beautiful cakes. She was quite gregarious and loved to talk, often striking up conversations with anyone who would listen or maybe just couldn’t get away – particularly those next to her in a checkout line. If you knew Syble, she was your friend and she loved you. She loved everyone and let you know that you were special to her. She had a very deep love for the children of her siblings, known to them as Ain’t Syble.

Mom, we love and treasure you and will miss your gigantic presence in all of our lives. Our hearts are breaking but we know you’re rejoicing to be reunited with Dad and your family.  Until we meet again one day, precious little Mama.

Our family would like to give special thanks to our sister, Kristy, for the 4 years of loving, tender, dedicated care that she gave to our sweet little mama when the dreaded illness began to overcome her. Because of this sacrifice Kristy made, mom was able to stay in her own home until the end. She quietly passed away with Kristy lovingly holding her hand and softly singing to her.

Memorial services will be held Saturday April 12 11:00 am at Wasatch Church of Christ 145 W 800 N, Clearfield, UT 84015. Floral deliveries can be sent after 9:00 AM the day of the service.
