14 Aug Saeko (Nozaki) Amano Nakashima
Saeko (Nozaki) Amano Nakashima, born April 20, 1928 in Clinton, Utah, passed away on July 21, 2023 at Carrington Court in South Jordan, Utah. Twice widowed, Saeko lived a long and fulfilling life of 95 years. Saeko was a seamstress and tailor, operating two separate dry-cleaning businesses in her lifetime. Few people worked as diligently as Saeko; she retired in 2003 after decades of providing impeccable service. Saeko was a clever and capable woman, able to realize the life and home she desired.
After her first husband, Pete Amano, passed away, Saeko attended the Japanese Church of Christ. With the support of her second husband, Kay Nakashima, Saeko became a Christian. Saeko and her husband both actively participated in their church community in the years before Kay passed away.
She is survived by her loving family; her daughter, Pamela Martin and son-in-law, Roger Martin; her granddaughters, Heather Fuhrken, Rebecca Speulda and Sarah Reinkoester, and their respective husbands, Lee Fuhrken, Josh Speulda and Andrew Reinkoester and her great-grandchildren, Madeline and Grace Fuhrken, Peter and Ethan Reinkoester, and Miriam and Elijah Speulda. She also leaves behind, her stepdaughter, Allyn Nakashima, her grand-stepson David Malison and grand-stepdaughter, Halley Malison.
Saeko was preceded in death by her parents, Shizuno Tanimoto and Yoshimatsu Nozaki and her siblings: Bill Nozaki (eldest brother), Mas Nozaki (elder brother), Mino Nozaki (younger brother) and Jenny Ozaki (sister). Her stepdaughter, Denyse Nakashima also preceded her in death.
Those who knew Saeko will miss her gregariousness and humor. We are grateful for the expressed support and affection from Saeko’s extended family, church community and friends. We invite you to leave memories and upload photos on Saeko’s memorial page, as a way to celebrate her life and the impact she had on those around her.
A memorial service will be held to honor Saeko on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 10am at the Japanese Church of Christ, 268 West 100 South, Salt Lake City, UT. Visitation will be from 9-10am prior to the service as an opportunity to give condolence to the family. Saeko will be buried in the Salt Lake Cemetary at a later date.
