Alvin Sheldon Henson

Our Dad, Alvin Sheldon Henson was born January 23, 1942, to Willard and Hattie Mae Henson. He was the first of 7 children, the oldest brother to 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

Dad and his siblings grew up helping to accomplish their dads dream to build a working homestead out on the Henson Ranch in the west desert. With a lot of hard work, they built a modest home from railroad ties that we warmly called the cabin.

In his younger years Dad was an over the road truck driver and motor bike rider. In 1972 he got a job with the Salt Lake City public works as a street sweeper and retired from SLC as a garbage bin collector after putting in 32 years.

On April 15th, 1973, Dad married the love of his life Beth Ann Stewart. He and Beth had 5 children. Alvin B Henson, Hattie Beth Forbes (Char-deceased), Mike Henson (Shannon) Daniel Henson (Jennifer) and Elaine Henson. One of the greatest moments of his life was when his granddaughter Rhiannon was born and he was now called Grandpa, followed by his proudest when his first Grandson Nathan, who would carry on his name, was born.

He was Grandpa to 5 Granddaughters and 3 Grandsons and loved being one. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his grandkids and has created many memories with them in his van on the ranch.

Dad was a hardworking and skilled man. He taught the value of honesty and hard work to all who he would guide in life.  He was a backyard mechanic and loved making his lawn look good, you could always find Dad out in the yard. He was a Husband, father, grandfather, hero, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Dad is preceeded in death by his parents, brother Melvin Henson and son in-law, Char Forbes.
We know Dad is back in the saddle again riding horses with a cold beer in his hand.

Open house memorial service will be at City View Mortuary on Thursday January 8th from 3pm-5pm.

I express my condolences to your family for the loss of your husband, father and grand father. His passing leaves a void in our hearts but fond memories help to ease that pain. Many memories of happy times have filled our thoughts the past few days. One of my sons favorite memories of his uncle Alvin occurred when he was a young boy on the ranch. He was trying to build a fire and not having much luck, Alvin observing this came over and said “let me teach you how to build a fire” and shared with him the proper skills for it. My son has shared those skills with many young Boy Scouts, Alvin’s influence will be felt in this world for years to come. He is a loved and valued member of our family and I look forward to the day through the grace of Jesus Christ I will have the opportunity to be with him again. May you find peace in your hearts during this trial.
