Garth Lessing Showalter

Garth Lessing Showalter was born on November 4, 1930 and passed away at the age of 92 on Thanksgiving Day, 2022 at approximately 4:54 PM.  He is survived by his wife Patti Showalter and his daughter Cristi Millard and his son Clark Showalter as well as his grandchildren, Hillary, Dena, Nicole, Mindy, Teisha, Amy and stepdaughter Lisa. He was preceded in death by his son Cary Showalter.

Garth was well known in the Salt Lake community, having worked at Van Waters and Rogers for over 30 years and Laundry Supply for 15 years. That was his work, but his passion was as a Ski Patrolman at Park City Ski Area for over 30 years, attaining a 30 year service pin, working that area on the weekends and assisting countless skiers over that time frame. When it was not snowing, he was on the golf links, including those in St. Andrews.

Garth grew up in the Cedar City area with his father Clark Showalter and mother Jerry Showalter and after his mother’s death when he was 14, moved to Salt Lake City to be raised by his mother’s sister Gay Cook and her husband Charles Cook.  He enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, skiing, and walking the dogs. He attended the University of Utah and attained a Bachelor’s Degree. He entered the US Air Force in the 1950s and served with distinction at Hill AFB.

His extended family loved Garth tremendously and many were around his bedside as he passed.

Funeral services will be held at City View Mortuary, 1001 East 11th Avenue, Salt Lake City, 84103 on November 29, 2022 at 1:00PM.  Private reception to follow.
