Gary Gene “Duke” Openshaw

April 23, 1937 – July 14, 2021 
Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather,  great-grandfather passed away peacefully on July 14, 2021. Gary was born April 23, 1937 to Elton Openshaw and Elta Soret Openshaw.  He married the love of his life Myrna Brems Openshaw on September 6, 1996. They were married for 24 years. Gary was an avid biker and was a welder and fabricator by trade. He retired from the University of Utah after several years of service. He could build or fix next to anything. Loved old cars and motorcycles. Loved to do anything with his hands.  He is survived by his son Joshua (Kimberly) Snellbaker, daughter Dennetta (Dennis) Rusch, daughter Donna (Christopher) Anderson. And numerous grandchildren and great grand children.Preceded in death by his loving wife Myrna Brems Openshaw,  his father and mother, his brother Elton Glenn Openshaw,  his granddaughter Wendy Sues.   Cremated at his request. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on October 9th, 2021 starting at 10:00am located at 824 Riley Circle, Salt Lake City, UT 8410-4.  R.I.P. dad.

    Oh uncle Gary I miss you and Myrna you guys were always so good to me… It breaks my heart you weren’t able to be home with Myrna when she passed and you were stuck in a unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, and you died there alone..I can’t imagine the heart break you must have felt as I know you loved her so very much as she did you. I still cry over all that has happened. Rest in peace uncle.
